Tips για το εορταστικό μακιγιάζ 2011-2012

Holiday parties are just around the corner and to get you ready to go from work to cocktail party, here is a holiday makeup tips interview:

What are the hottest makeup trends to watch this holiday season?

Two looks are classic and hot right now: The smokey, shimmery eye paired with light lips and the deep red lips balanced with a light eye. Shimmer is in this year, as it was last year, and it's the perfect festive look as long as you don't overload on the shimmer.

Work makeup is, in general, pretty conservative. What can a woman do to punch up her look without taking it all off and starting over? (i.e. with lip makeup? Eye makeup? Blush?)

Transitioning from work to evening is actually pretty easy if you prep yourself. Apply tinted moisturizer (or foundation), mascara and gloss or lipstick before work. After work, cover any blemishes by patting in a concealer (never rub). Then follow these steps for either the smokey eye look or the deep red look:

For the Smokey Eye
1. Apply your eye makeup: Eyeliner on both top and bottom lashes (be sure to 'smudge it,' dark eyeliner will age you), a eye shadow primer, and a shimmery shadow on the lid. Don't apply any more mascara unless your earlier application has rubbed completely off, otherwise you risk getting clumpy lashes.
2. Dab a shimmery blush to cheeks
3. Powder your face lightly.
4. Apply a light lipstick or gloss.

For Deep Red Lips
1. Cover unsightly veins on eyelids with a matte eyeshadow in a color that's as close as your skin tone as possible (such as beige).
2. Apply a very light shimmery blush on cheeks.
3. Line lips and fill in with your favorite red color.
4. Powder face.

What different kinds of makeup should a woman wear to a chatty cocktail party, as opposed to a high-class late-night party?
For the high-class party: Apply more shimmer or go deeper with the red lipstick.

How can women wear these party looks without their makeup looking costume-ish?
The number 1 rule of thumb: Never play up BOTH the eyes and the mouth.

Watch What You're Wearing

Be careful not to match your makeup to your outfit. According to Allure Magazine, "matchy-matchy is tacky." "If you're dressed to the nines, your face should be low-drama," says makeup artist Jemma Kidd in the December 2009 issue. If you have a sparkly dress don't apply sparkly makeup. Instead, stick with a smokey eye. If you are wearing bold prints or color, keep your makeup neutral.

Add Shimmer to Eyes

  • You can get shimmery eyes in several ways. Try a shimmery cream or buy a powder shimmer and mix the shadow with water. The water will help create a dense metallic pigment that's not too soft. Some shadows are barely there, but you want your shadow to have heft.
  • Apply shimmery shadow above the iris in your eye and on the inner corner of the eye. This will open up the eye, lighten up what is usually a dark area of the lid, and helps eyes look amazing in photos.
  • If you do go with the shimmery eye, don't go overboard with the shimmer. Apply shimmer to no more than 2 places. For example, shimmer your eyelids and your cheekbones but don't also add a batch of shimmer to your decolletage.

Highlighter Should be Your Best Friend

Highlighting pens are a staple in any makeup artist's makeup bag . Highlighters act as a brightener. Skin becomes luminous and dewy.

Here's how to apply: Put your chin to your chest and look into a mirror. Swipe a line of highlighter on the shadows, usually under the eye, along the nose, under the chin. I also apply a line above each brow to pull my face up. Blend the lines in by dabbing with your middle finger.

Choose to Play Up Either the Mouth or the Eyes

When choosing holiday makeup, decide if you're going to play up your eyes or your mouth. If you emphasize both, you'll risk looking like a clown. If you do a bright red lip, keep the face light and use only mascara and a light shadow on lids. Don't go overboard with bronzer, smokey eyes and blush.

If you opt for a dark, smokey eye, lighten up lips with a light, sheer lipstick.

Try a New Color on the Lids

Mix it up this year and try a mauve smokey eye, a color that looks great on everyone. You can create a gorgeous smokey eye by using a brown eyeliner around eyes and then smudge a matte mauve from your lid up to your brow. Smudge a bit under the eye with your finger. Most companies offer a mauve palette. Pair the mauve lids with pretty pink cheeks and I guarantee you'll hear some ooohs and aaaahs at your party. The color is especially lovely paired with a gray or metallic dress.

To fix eyeshadow that falls onto cheeks after application, use a Q-tip dipped in eye makeup remover and lightly roll over the shadow-y bits.

The Perfect Red Lip

To get the perfect red lip, line lips first in a similar shade of lip liner then fill in with the lipstick. Set with powder, then apply another layer on top. This will help keep lipstick in place as the night goes on. Remember to keep the rest of your face minimal with mascara and powder.

Get Your Brows Done

You can have perfect makeup, but if your brows are a mess, you'll look unfinished. A couple days before your holiday party, get your brows waxed, threaded or tweezed. Keep them in place by spraying a bit of hairspray on your finger and running them over the brow or opt for a brow gel like M.A.C.'s Brow Set ($13.50) which will keep brow hairs in place for hours. on.

The Mani/Pedi

You may be tempted to get fake nails for the holiday party, but don't. Short rounded nails are more chic, look clean and are elegant. Opt for a deep, dark trendy color (dark purples are hot for winter) or go light. And don't forget your feet. Even if your toes are hidden from view, you'll feel more put together if you have manicured feet.

Don't Skip the Blush if You're a Brunette

The one mistake I see brunette girls with peachy complexions make is skipping the blush. They end up with brown hair and white skin and no color anywhere. Add some color on your lids and on the cheeks for that "I just came in out of the snowstorm" look that's so gorgeous.

3 εορταστικά looks

Rockin' Rosy Glow

Here's a great example of how to highlight each of your features -- eyes, cheeks, and lips -- without looking "done up." As long as you stay within the same color family, you can evenly balance the face and create a soft, monochromatic look.

Start with a shimmering pink blush on the apples of the cheeks to get that just-in-from-the-cold healthy flush. Add a mauve, rose, or aubergine eye shadow to keep eyes aligned with the rosy palette. Top with a bit of black mascara.

Finally, finish the look with a dab of lip color in shades such as plum, burgundy, or rose. Look for sheer lipsticks and glosses to keep the look soft and sexy, not harsh. To keep this color in place, first line and fill lips with pencil in a matching shade.

The result should be fresh-faced and a balance of evenly placed soft color, like you are barely wearing makeup at all!

Party Purples

Purple is a great party color and makes a bold statement when applied correctly. Here, the lips take center stage.

To achieve a sexy mouth that lasts through an entire evening, line and fill the entire lip with lip pencil. Filling in with lip pencil gives you an even layer of color across the lips and offers much longer wear. After filling in, take your lip brush and go over the entire lip to make sure color is evenly placed. Then add a dusting of powder directly over the pencil (or put a tissue over the lips and dust over that) to really set the color.

Experiment with lip colors such as sheer grape, sugar plum, or shades of fuchsia and magenta. Try sheer gloss for a subdued shimmer; for the more adventurous, try a lip color that offers fuller coverage.

Finish with foundation on the eyes to even out skin tone, and add a hint of midnight blue liner along the upper lashline. Then, soften this look with a bit of coordinating eye shadow, such as an amethyst or navy blue for a modified smoky eye. This look will beautifully balance out the purple hue without overpowering the face.

Sugar and Spice

A soft golden glow is the perfect look to complement the festive lights of the season. Warm hues like gingerbread, pumpkin, copper, and champagne spice up any look, and offer a "just-back-from-the-tropics" flush -- not bad for those of us who haven't seen the sun since Labor Day!

My favorite way to achieve this look is to play up the eyes and leave cheeks and lips radiant with natural-looking shimmer. A dark shade of brown eye pencil goes on the lash line, blended with a smudge brush. Then the eyelid gets a sweep of a coppery brown or bronze shadow. Finish with a bit of light golden shimmer shadow where the inner corners of the eyes meet the nose to brighten and open up the entire face.

Keep lips soft with sheer colors in the same family -- sienna, champagne, even a sheer red -- to add healthy color that won't compete with the eyes for attention. Finish with bronzer or a warm peachy blush on the apples of the cheeks for that sun-kissed look. If you desire more color, add a light dusting of bronzer or blush at the temples and on the chin. Be careful not to overdo it. Remember, you want people to notice you, not your makeup!
